Although Windows Vista is mentioned briefly, the recommendations in this article are primarily intended for systems that utilize Windows XP or an earlier version of the Windows operating system.The first title, A Very Very Beginner's Guide to Using Computers by Kara Glover is a wonderful tutorial for those who have very little computing experience or no experience at all. This compact guide of nearly one hundred pages covers subjects as straightforward as turning the computer on and off, how to write and send email, and bookmarking Websites (a bookmark is simply a saved link to a website or a web page). After skimming though the pages of this guide, I was impressed with how it focuses on general Web related issues. The book also contains a fairly informative section on how to keep your PC secure. In today's virus intensive Web environment, every end-user should understand at least the basics on how to protect their system. If you're looking for a book that covers the absolute basics of the basics, this is the title for you.
