As an expert in this field, I can tell you from experience that unless you get really lucky, you won't make a lot of money in your first year. In fact, you may not make a single penny your first year. I know that sounds bad and might make you want to turn away and run, but you can't let that affect you. If you truly want to make it in the "at-home" business world, you must have patience, and you must also have a passion for what you are selling, promoting, or offering.

I. Finding Your Niche

Before you even begin building a website, you need to discover what you truly want to make of your at-home business. Maybe you want to work from your home selling a physical product. This means that you personally handle the product and there is no business done over the Internet. It would be kind of like having your own store in your house. Some good examples of a business like this would be along the lines of making & selling candles, offering catering services (not a physical product, but can be managed from home), selling books, crafting, etc. However, if you don't want to deal with the pains of managing a business like the previous mentioned, you could sell or promote products online through an affiliate program. A lot of people have even began writing and selling e-books online too. If you have a niche for writing stories or tutorials, turn them into an e-book and publish them over the 'Net.

II. Setting Up Your Business Pt. 1 ; Workspace

A. Whether you have decided to sell online or offline, you will need to set up your business. If you are basing your business physically in your home, you should have a reasonable space already set up where you will be spending your work hours. I recommend separating this space from the rest of the house, giving it a more professional and relaxing feeling. If you have a home office, that works too. Anywhere in your home that offers some peace and quiet will guarantee for a good work spot. Make sure that you have enough room to store your products without being damaged, as that would obviously not help with profitting from them.
